The College of Sciences in collaboration with Time Projects held a roof wetting rite on April 16, 2015 for the college’s building, which is nearing completion.
Time Projects Managing Director Mr Sandy Kelly said he was very pleased to have put together such an event to show that the building project is on schedule.
He said the roof wetting observance is a show of faith on the contractor by client that signifies a problem-free working relationship.
He expressed gratitude to the contractors for their tireless effort in ensuring that the work gets done to agreed specifications.
Speaking on behalf of the College of Sciences, Acting Dean Professor Amey, said the construction of the college building is a very important step in the development of BIUST as students need to acquire fundamental scientific skills, which they can only learn in appropriate laboratories.
Professor Amey further said the project is also a sign to the people of Botswana that BIUST is firmly putting in place all that is necessary for the nation to achieve its dream of having a world class university that will play a key role in the transformation of the economy.
He said the building will house Earth and Environmental Sciences, Physics, Astronomy, Biology and Biotechnological Sciences, which will play a vital role in driving the research mandate of the university.
Other buildings that form part of this major project will house Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Chemical and Forensic Sciences, Health and Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Sciences, an auditorium and a classroom block.
