The Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences offers a wide variety of exciting programs and courses in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, and Applied Statistics. Our faculty bring knowledge and experience from diverse backgrounds. Your programmes will be enriched with individual Research Opportunity courses, and with small group project and thesis courses with the Academic Staff.
Your learning will be supported by the dedicated faculty and staff. BIUST offers a beautiful campus with new state-of-the-art facilities such as the Library, laboratories and workshops. BIUST continues to expand, blending our natural surrounding with modern facilities designed to allow you to learn in a happy and supportive environment.
- Dr Boikanyo Makubate Lecturer - Statistics
Dr. Maubate's doctoral thesis (2009) was on the analysis of crossover design in infertility trials using random effects modeling. Current research is focussed on applying statistics on routine data to answer a number of clinically important questions. Earlier work has included use of routine datasets (Breast Cancer) to investigate the effect of adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy on survival for breast cancer patients.
- Zecharia Mushaandja Lecturer - Mathematics
As a postgraduate student at the University of Cape Town (UCT), he was introduced to different ways of studying topology. The lattice-theoretic approach, which leads to point-free topology, was well represented in the Topology and Category Theory Research Group of UCT at that time.
- Malebogo Monnawathebe Teaching Instructor - Mathematics
Ms Monnawathebe hold a Master of Science (M. Sc) degree in Mathematics, a Bachelors Degree in Education Science (Mathematics). Her MSc paper was titled ‘Cubic Spline Collocation Methods for Solving Diffusion Equations with Mathematica. Worked as a Mathematics teacher, offering O’level and A’ level Mathematics at high school level.
- Tefa Kaisara Teaching Instructor - Mathematics
She studied Bed Science, majoring in Mathematics at the University of Botswana. Then pursued an Msc in Industrial and applied Mathematics. Ms Kaisara have taught Mathematics in Secondary schools and other learning institutes including Molepolole College of Education and IDM.
- Kgomotso Morupisi Teaching Instructor - Mathematics
Ms Morupisi's previous dissertation focused on the numerical solutions of Beam Equation. Since then her area of interest have grown within the area of Applied mathematics and mathematical modeling. Her specific interest is on industrial application of mathematics. Worked in senior secondary schools teaching mathematics and in tertiary institutions as a lecturer of mathematics.
